Squeezing in some MMS(I) business!

On Monday we started moving back towards the south coast , stopping to stay in Kumasi. From here we went out to Ankaase Faith Healing Hospital, where MMS(I) mission partner Pat Jamison is working. Pat arrived at the end of March to begin her placement in Ghana. It was such a pleasure to spend time with Pat and for her to show us around the hospital and tell us about the various departments. We met Joseph Atta Amankwah, the Administrator of the hospital, who has been in post for about 2 years. He shared with us the plans for the hospital which included completing and furnishing a brand new hospital building and also building accommodation for staff and patient relatives.

Much like Wenchi, this hospital is in the heart of the community it serves. Pat took us to a clinic which runs twice weekly in one of the nearby "scattered settlements". The set-up is simple; meet under the trees outside the school, hang scales over a bit of wood attached to two trees, and then attend to the crowds which have gathered to benefit from this service.  Nurses will weigh babies & give them their vaccinations, as well as providing health advice. This hospital knows the needs of those around it and is working to address them.

Pat will be developing the nutrition programme as well as training nurses and also using some time for research.  Despite only being 3 weeks iinto her new chapter in Ankaase, Pat's vision and heart for this hospital is clear to see. I have no doubt that she will be huge asset to the team there as she works alongside them under Joseph's lead.
